    • Touchuponastar notches second consecutive New Orleans Classic

      Second two years ago in the New Orleans Classic, Touchuponastar won the race last year, and on Saturday became the first horse in 38 years to win two in a row.

      Touchuponastar ran 1 1/8 miles on a fast track in 1:46.84, a clocking officially taken on GPS but confirmed through hand-timing. No horse here ever has run faster; Touchuponastar bested the 1:47.39 standard Factor This established in 2020.

      It's only fitting that on closing weekend of the Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots meet, Louisiana's pride and joy, Touchuponastar , is competing in the March 21 New Orleans Classic Stakes (G2), a race that the now 7-year-old won last year.

      Owned by Jake Delhomme's Set-Hut and trained by his brother, Jeff, Touchuponastar, the 2023 and 2025 Louisiana-bred Horse of the Year, is among a field of six entered in the $500,000 dirt race for 4-year-olds and up. The race, however, lost a runner Tuesday when trainer Todd Pletcher told BloodHorse that he would scratch Louisiana Stakes (G3) winner Accelerize  to run in the March 21 Essex Handicap (G3) at Oaklawn Park.

      MISTER BANDERAS broke his maiden in a MSW at the end of 2025, he has been on the board in 3 allowance races since then and today won in allowance company at the Fair Grounds. He raced 6 furlongs on the dirt. After a bump at the start, he settled behind horses then split the field to get up for the win by 1 1/2 lengths. MISTER BANDERAS is owned by Maggi Moss and is trained by Thomas M. Amoss.     • Touchuponastar Named LA-Bred Horse of the Year and STAR GUITAR names Stallion of the Year for 2025

      The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association announced March 6 the winners of its 2025 championship awards, highlighted by Touchuponastar , who was voted the state's Horse of the Year by the LTBA board of directors from among the divisional champions.

      Touchuponastar further earned honors as the champion 4-year-old-and-up male following another standout season.
      Star Guitar, who stands at Clear Creek Stud, was named Stallion of the Year, with his progeny earning more than any other stallion standing in Louisiana during 2025.

      The $125,000 Matron came down to a two-horse race in the final strides between Sassi Strutter and Six String. The pair squared off in the final furlong of the five-furlong sprint and dueled to the wire where Sassi Strutter prevailed under journeyman jockey Thomas Pompell. Six String finished a hard luck second. Coming in third was Floyd Pitzer & Renee Pitzer homebred CUSTOM DESIGN by CUSTOM FOR CARLOS trained by her owner and breederFloyd D. Pitzer.
